Bayeux War Cemetery and Memorial

There is one of the largest Commonwealth War cemeteries in France here is Bayeux.  There are over 4100 individuals interred here, mostly British but also 181 Canadians as well as German and individuals from 8 other countries.

As well as those interred here, there are another 1807 individuals including 270 Canadians who are commemorated across the street in the bayeux Memorial.  These individuals have no known grave.

This is the Bayeux War Cemetery - in this building is a registry of all the individuals interred here and their location in the cemetery.  This list is in alphabetical order.

There are row upon row upon row of grave markers, all well tended - we managed to find 12 of the Canadians buried here.  It is a solemn and quiet place even though it is right off a busy roadway.  The graves are shelter by massive European chestnut trees

these markers are for a Canadian, a North African and a Polish soliders

About six of the Canadian grave markers were for men from the Seaforth Highlanders, all died on the 11th of June 1944
